Meditation and Improvisation
My main sources of inspiration is meditation and improvisation. Sometimes I hear new melodies while being in meditation. Then I use these for my compositions. Often inspiring harmonies and combinations come into being while I improvise at the piano.
My professional work as pianist, composer, music director and organist as well as my deep spiritual journey has shaped my life for many years. My wife Stella and I live in St Thomas, Ontario. Together we enjoy music, nature and strife for developing a deeper inner understanding of life.
My primary instrument is the piano. I started playing at the age of five. Later I also learned cello. I went to Vienna to study at the University of Music piano, organ and choral conducting. There I received my Master of Music (Magister der Künste). I continued my studies at the University of Music “Mozarteum” in Salzburg learning orchestral conducting.
Playing, composing and writing meditative piano music became my main interests. This brought me to various countries in Europe, South and North America.
2009 I immigrated to Canada. I held various positions as music director and organist and received commissions for writing music. I perform as pianist, make piano recordings and give lessons in piano, piano improvisation and composition. Piano students are shown how to attain masterful skills on their instrument. And students learning music writing or improvisation, are guided step by step on the way to create their own beautiful music. Through many years of experience as piano teacher and my love for improvisation, I offer to integrate piano improvisation from the very beginning of the lessons. In this way students can enjoy creating their own music, while they are learning to play the instrument.
